Life at Tulloch Primary School

P3 Rm5

Welcome to P3 with Mr Dewar.

Happy New Year!

Welcome back Primary 3. I am really pleased to be taking the class all week and looking forward to seeing you all and embark on our learning journey for Term 3. It is slightly different at the moment with Home Learning but I am sure that you will be give the same amazing effort you do in school. I appreciate that this will be a challenge for you and your families, but I am in the same position as you. We are all in this together and I am here to help. I will assign activities for Literacy, Numeracy and Health and Wellbeing every morning for the day. Don’t worry if you cannot attempt all the activities or need to do them at a later time, just do your best and what is manageable. I will also be scheduling live lessons to support you with your learning and to catch up with how you are finding the Home Learning programme. Good luck and remember I am here to help, so please keep in touch. Hopefully we will be back in school soon and I look forward to seeing you all in person.

This term P3 Rm5 will be taught by Mrs Crawford on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays and Mr Dewar on Thursdays and Fridays.

Our Health and Wellbeing focus has been on getting to know each other and on building relationships.  We will begin to identify our strengths and skills and set targets for our learning. We will also be looking at feelings and emotions, how these can be identified and how we can manage these in different situations.

Across the week we will work on developing our mental maths skills, word decoding skills, reading and comprehension skills.  In numeracy, we have been focusing on fractions with Mrs Crawford and have been learning how to find halves and quarters of shapes and amounts and will progress to finding these on number lines.  We will also investigate equivalent fractions such as 1/2 and 2/4.

In literacy, we have been developing our ability to rhyme and have tried to incorporate this within our poetry writing; so far we have written a poem for autumn and fireworks.  We will look at letter writing later in the term.  We have also be developing our oracy skills by discussing what is happening in the world around us and sharing our opinions on what we have heard and watched.

Our topic this term is Festivals and we have already learned about the origins of Halloween and how this is celebrated around the world, Dias de los Muertos, Bonfire Night and Remembrance Day. We will look at other world Festivals including Diwali, Thanksgiving, St. Andrews Day and Christmas.

We are all settled into the routine of Primary 3. In the first week, we created our class charter which we all agreed to. Also, we have a proud cloud and if we are behaving or working well, we can be moved onto the proud cloud and might get a certificate and prize at the end of the week.

Tuesday and Friday are our outdoor learning days and we are loving circuits on a Friday.

In phonics, we have been consolidating our Primary 2 sounds before we move onto new sounds. In reading, we have been reading our books daily and completing reading activities such as a book review or character description.  In writing, we have been using VCOP to up-level our work.

In numeracy, we have been counting in 1s, 2s, 5s and 10s. We have also been learning about place value and the need for zero as a place holder. We have been using tens and units to  help us with place value.
