Primary 4 Room 9

Welcome to Primary 4 with Miss MacKinnon.

Happy New Year!

In P4 this term we are going to be busy!

Our new class novel is Fantastic Mr Fox by Roald Dahl and our reading activities will be based on the story.

We are revising and developing our addition and subtraction skills as we learn to work with larger numbers and new methods. Every Friday we will continue to work on our times tables as we get quicker and more confident working with them.

In Big Write we continue to develop our imaginative writing skills as we describe the character, set the scene and structure with paragraphs. We will also be developing our punctuation as we add more complex connectives and punctuation to our stories.

Our topic continues to be Celebrations Around the World as we explore other cultures and religions.

This term in P4 we are beginning a new topic, Celebrations Around the World. We have started to look at how Halloween and Bonfire Night are celebrated and the history behind them. We are still doing PE/Outdoor learning on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. On Tuesday’s we are focusing on developing our Hockey skills with Miss MacKinnon. Mrs Telfer will still be teaching us on Wednesday mornings and is excited to teach P4 about Science and Space.

Each week we are writing, we are either planning our Big Write or completing our Big Write – this always happens on a Thursday. We are writing poems this term and learning about different structures of poems (eg. Rhyming, acrostic). And our maths focus will be Fractions and Time this term.

On Monday’s we start our week building our Resilience strategies, as we are all experts with Growth Mindset now and we are discussing how we feel as we develop our confidence and self-esteem,

In P4 so far we have been learning about a Growth Mindset and SHANARRI.  In Maths we are learning strategies for multiplication.  We are learning different strategies in reading and so far have focused on main points, visualisation, metalinguistics and prediction.  Although we are all in reading groups, we are currently enjoying our class novel; Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.  We have also been learning about planning our writing and a favourite already has been our task all about our superheroes.

We have worked together to create our Class Charter.  You can ask me more about this at home!
