Play in the Early Years
Curriculum for Excellence is about bringing life to learning and learning to life. It was introduced to raise standards of learning and teaching and help to improve our children’s life chances. It brings real life into the classroom and takes lessons beyond the classroom. It promises to support children in every way possible so that they can fulfil their potential and make the most of their opportunities.
Although play experiences have always been on offer, especially in our infant classes, as of August 2024 we are adopting a more creative approach to teaching and learning in Primary 1, 2 and 3. This will provide children with more opportunities to learn through play and first-hand experiences using real life resources. These experiences help children to develop confidence in themselves as learners and build the necessary skills required to access the curriculum. We are also focusing on improving the children’s vocabulary which supports children with both their reading and writing.
We invite our P1-P3 families to join us for a ‘Stay and Learn through Play’ session where you will have the opportunity to engage in play experiences in our classrooms and outdoor environment and find out more information about our Learning through play journey.
Please join us for one of our sessions on Thursday 19th September at 9-10am or 2-3pm. Access your child’s classroom via their class door in the playground.
