P1 Rm1 Ms Robb
We have had a great start to Primary 1 in Room1. We are building our independence when starting our day with getting ready for the classroom; hanging up our jacket, changing our shoes, choosing our lunch order, sharing how we are feeling, before catching up with friends with a play together in the different areas of the classroom. Once everyone is ready, we gather around our circle rug to discuss our timetable and our learning for the day. Then it is off to complete various tasks, some of which involve learning through play experiences.
We have lots of different areas that support different play experiences; discovery areas such as construction, sand, water, loose parts, and sensory trays; creative areas like the message centre, playdough, arts and crafts; and social areas such as the home corner, role play, small world, puppets, cars and trains. We enjoy having PE with Mr Wright and Ms Robb, learning why it is important to stay fit and healthy. We are also developing our digital skills with Mrs Pretorius.
Each week we have Rainbow Challenges which help practise our literacy and maths through fun activities and give stimuluses to extend our learning through play. As we complete the challenges, we collect a coloured lollipop stick, aiming for a rainbow by the end of the week. At various points of the day, we will gather again at the listening and talking circle rug to reflect on our learning and next steps. We love sharing our photos that we have taken on the iPads of our achievements during Snack and Chat.
While creating our Class Charter, we have been learning about the school values of courage and compassion, our school rules of Ready, Respectful and Safe, and rights of a child, choosing to focus on the following articles for our class:
Article 12: We have the right to be heard.
Article 15: We have the right to make friends.
Article 28: We have the right to learn.
